The Riviera Maya Better destination than Cancun?

Cancun is a brand that has a huge exposure the past years, the popularity of this destination is growing every year, and now The Riviera Maya has the same behavior.

But even if these two destinations are in the same area of The Yucatan Peninsula, what is the difference between them?

For one reason Cancun is the starting point if you are planning your vacations in any of these destinations, the main reason is the international airport of Cancun.  From here traveling to the Cancun Hotel Zone is a ride of 20 minutes and 40 minutes to 1 ½ hours to the Riviera Maya.

But if you really want to visit all the main attractions of the area, probably Cancun is far for these, not the case of the Riviera Maya. Before we get further about this, we need to know that The Riviera Maya are Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum and all hotels in between this local places.

Cancun has many tour activities, but we can say, all of them in the Hotel with all-inclusive packages, the same in Riviera Maya, but for those travelers looking for adventure the Riviera Maya has the closest main attractions(less than 1-hour ride, not the case of  Cancun) like:

Tour to Coba andTulum( famous Mayan ruins 30 minutes from Riviera Maya 1 hour from Cancun)

Tour to Chichen Itza in Yucatan( 2 hours from RM 31/2 from Cancun)

Marine turtle Tour Akumal (Amazing white sand beach and coral reef 15 minutes from Riviera Maya )

And much more other adventure and nature tours, in a short ride than Cancun.

So in conclusion, The Riviera Maya Better destination than Cancun? not really, basically, you can go either these destinations to the same natural and archaeological attractions, the only difference is the time you will take to get there, even if you travel by your self-renting a car or booking a tour, so if you plan to visit Cancun or Riviera Maya, don’t stay at your hotel all trip and enjoy the amazing nature and culture of Mexico.
